Day 1 (Wed, 6/26) - Departure DC

Day 2 (Thu, 6/27) - Arrival in Japan

Learnings:
Transportation Efficiency: We experienced Japan's highly efficient transportation system, including punctual and clean public transit.
Cultural Adjustment: The importance of rest and acclimatization after a long flight was emphasized.
Initial Impressions: We made initial cultural observations, noting the politeness and hospitality of the Japanese people. In addition to being educated to public bathing.
Day 3 (Fri, 6/28) - Fukushima

Sekisho Gate Premodern Time.
Visit Museum - a newly opened facility in the township of Futaba in Fukushima Prefecture, educates visitors about 3.11 and ongoing efforts to rebuild the region.
Visit The Memorial - established to share the history of the disaster and the following reconstruction efforts by preserving and exhibiting materials related to the earthquake and tsunami, giving talks by local storytellers, and other activities. This way, they are able to preserve the memories and lessons of the disaster.

Visit Aquamarine Fukushima - is an ‘environmental aquarium’ that exhibits aquatic creatures in environments which closely mimic their natural habitats.

Learnings:
Educational System: We learned about the structure of the Japanese educational system and daily life for high school students.
Urban Planning: Observed the planning and rebuilding efforts in Fukushima's New City, showcasing modern urban development.
Cultural Heritage: The museum visit provided historical context and a deeper understanding of Japan's cultural heritage.We also learned briefly about earthquake proof architecture including the Japanese carpentry techniques at an older border crossing
Earthquakes and the many ways they influence Japanese life and culture from architecture to city planning
Tsunami in particular the tsunami that hit the East Coast of Japan on March 11, 2011 and the effect it had on communities in Fukushima, including the town of Iwaki where 301 of the 344 houses were destroyed by the tsunami.
“culture of seasonality” - The vital rule that fish play in the economy and diet of the Japanese people Including a visit to the fish market and the aquarium. we learned about the “culture of seasonality” of Japanese agriculture and observed some of the wildlife as we drove around to our destinations.
Day 4 (Sat, 6/29) - Fukushima

Day 6 (Mon, 7/1) - Hiroshima

Day 7 (Tue, 7/2) - Osaka

Day 10 (Fri, 7/5) Osaka, Himeji, Yamaguchi

Day 11 (Sat, 7/6) Host Family Day!

9:45 AM: Breakfast with the host family; enjoyed egg, toast with strawberry jam, salad, and fruit.
10:30 AM: Relax upstairs for about an hour.
11:30 AM: Plan the day with the host family.
12:00 PM: Make fruit candy with Misa-Chan; enjoyed the experience.
1:00 PM: Visit Kanmon Strait Museum; beginning to feel homesick.
3:00 PM: Explore the mall; tried on a yukata for the Tanabata festival.
4:30 PM: Put the yukata on hold and return home for a short break.
5:00 PM: Head to the Tanabata festival; met up with David.
6:00 PM: Watch dance performances at the festival, visit the shrine to pray and make a wish.
8:00 PM: Return home; enjoy a peach popsicle before bed.
